I have always been an artist, like my dad before me. His artistic vision guided me throughout my many different careers and it is ultimately how I define myself. I am mom to Zach and his wife, Michele, Sam, Katie and her husband, Shimmy, and dog mom to Pickles. I especially love being called Gamma to our grandson, Ethan and his baby new sister, Maddie. My husband Norm and I are both retired teachers. He spends his days playing pickleball, and enjoys a good game of poker. I keep my hands busy painting at my easel or sewing at my tapestry frame. Our family is growing in wonderful ways while my house is getting emptier with each of our children leaving the nest. I am so glad for the company of my dog.
There is nothing I enjoy more than capturing life on a canvas. A few years ago, I finished a pet portrait of Hannah, my sweet pup who was born to a stray Katie rescued. Hannah lived a joyous and very long life for a dog. When the portrait was almost complete, I started to cry...she did not have much longer to live. We gave her almost 17 years of love and she gave us back 119 years (in dog years) of pure, unconditional love. Not a bad investment, having a pet. Hannah's soft fur looked so real to me on the canvas that her painting became a celebration her life.
That is what art should be, a celebration of life.
